Community Centre General Manager

Office Hours The centre operates from early morning to late evening so it will be necessary to select availability that best ensures that this spread is adequately covered

Job Summary:

The Community Centre Manager is responsible for the overall management of the daily operation of the Community Centre, and must report to the Board of the management, and other Board representatives. The Centre has developed and grown over the last twenty years to become a central element in the life of our community.  We are now entering a new development phase in our operation to better serve the fast-growing community of Donabate and Portrane. 

We are seeking someone who can lead and contribute to that exciting development. The successful candidate will be the main point of contact for the Centre and, in line with the Community Centres’ mission, aims and objectives will endeavour to provide a positive focal point for the relevant local communities and to strive to meet the needs of the diverse local communities in an inclusive way through the provision of space which supports the promotion of participation in sport, leisure, educational and recreational activities, whilst maximising the use of the centre.

Primary Duties:

  • Act as the main point of contact for Community Centre.
  • Develop close working relationships with all stakeholders, and local community groups to ensure that there is a suitable healthy environment for everyone using the Centre.
  • Implementation of the Community Centres’ Business aims and objectives.
  • Market and actively promote the Centre in line with the Marketing Plan, to obtain new clients and engage with the community and increase awareness and footfall into the Centre.
  • Management, motivating and development of staff.
  • Participate in performance reviews.
  • Act as the main point of contact for hirers of the Centre.
  • To have excellent problem-solving abilities and have the ability to resolve challenging situations in a calm, effective and timely manner.
  • Respond to initial enquiries including showing potential hirers for the Centre around, answering the telephone, replying to e-mails, using online tools etc.
  • Produce letters, reports and other documentation as directed.
  • Maintain appropriate filing systems and records.
  • Ensure effective maintenance of the building – including maintenance programmes, ensuring the supervision of contractors and others regarding work in the building.
  • Manage the Centre budgets to ensure income and expenditure are in line with target.
  • To apply for relevant grants and funding for the Centre.
  • Ensure all H&S guidelines and met and maintained.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to Centre users and general Centre business.
  • Ensure all processes/procedures are developed and implemented.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills & Experience

  • A 3rd level qualification in Business/Financial Administration, Training, Human Resources, facility management, Project Management, or related disciplines. (Experience in lieu of qualification may be considered).
  • Demonstrable record in organizational leadership in community development.
  • Proven financial skills with record of setting and achieving budgets
  • IT literate with strong experience of Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including a welcoming and friendly manner
  • Experience of organising and servicing effective meetings and events
  • Ability to work flexibly and on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of groups and individuals
  • Ability to maintain records and correspondence
  • Must have a proven work and attendance record

The position will involve attending meetings and training off-site so access to your own transport is ideal.

Salary: There will be an attractive salary, adjusted to take account of experience  

Probation period: There will be a probation period after appointment.
